The Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU.rugby) has launched the long awaited Youth Rugby League Fixture in the 2021 rugby season.
The league which officially kicks off on Saturday 08th May, 2021 has brought together more than 13 Teams drawn from Colleges, Universities, Community & Club Reserve Teams.
“We are delighted to be announcing this initiative which will be in phases. As you may be aware, for more than 15 years we have had a gap between the Tag/Touch Rugby set ups which usually involve the u10s up to u16s and Club Rugby hence the launch of this league is going to close those perceived gaps”, says ZRU Spokesperson Tom Chaloba.
Some of the participating teams (phase one) are…;
- University of Zambia
- University of Lusaka
- Lusaka Apex Medical University
- Chalimbana University
- Cavendish University
- Lusaka Rugby Club
- Red Arrows B
- Kafue Hawks
- Oydc Rugby
- Evelyn Hone College
- Natural Resources Dev Centre
- Lions Rugby
- Chibolya Rugby
Phase 2, 3 & 4 will involve bringing on board Teams from Southern, Central & Copperbelt Provinces respectively.
“We remain confident that this initiative will help increase the number of participants in the games such as Coaches, Referees, Administors, etc thereby increasing our fan base countrywide”, he concluded.
