Uganda Kicks Off 2024 Rugby Africa Cup with Historic Ceremony

In an unforgettable ceremony, Uganda launched the official 2024 Rugby Africa Cup campaign at Kings Park Arena on Wednesday, May 22 in Kampala, Uganda.

The Uganda Rugby Union organized the ceremony (https://www.ugandarugby.com) in partnership with Nile Breweries (https://www.nilebreweries.com), marking the official countdown of the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup. The launch event welcomed official speakers such as the Honourable Denis Hamson Obua, Government of Uganda Chief Whip, Godwin Arinaitwe Kayangwe, Uganda Rugby Union President, Honorable Dan Kidega, Uganda Rugby Union Trustee, and Nile Breweries East District Manager, Davidson Wadada.

This tournament symbolizes a historic first for Uganda, as it proudly hosts the inaugural Rugby Africa Tournament. The Honorable Denis Hamson Obua, Government Chief Whip of Uganda, encouraged increased support for rugby across Uganda from the private sector. Furthermore, the Government Chief Whip expressed gratitude to Nile Breweries Limited, often described as the number one fan of rugby across East Africa.

Nile Breweries East District Manager, Davidson Wadada, encouraged rugby fanatics to “raise the standard of the game”, with an opportunity for Ugandans to raise the host flag to the world. Nile Breweries Limited is committed to making the 2024 Rugby Africa Tournament a historic tournament across East Africa, promising to give “Nile Special gifts” to the rugby fanatics.

Despite being unable to attend the event physically, the President of Rugby Africa addressed the audience through a live video feed expressing his heartfelt support for the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup Tournament. Mr. Mensah continued to praise Uganda’s commitment to hosting the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup. While highlighting the growth and competitiveness of rugby across Africa, Mr. Mensah also emphasized the economic potential of the sport.

The evening was filled with entertainment, laughter, and excitement for the Rugby Africa Tournament and the unveiling of the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup logo. As Uganda continues to prepare for the Rugby Africa Cup, the world is ready to witness a remarkable tournament inspiring rugby across Africa.

The Rugby Africa Cup is a continental men’s rugby union tournament organized by Rugby Africa. The 2024 edition of the tournament features eight nations including Burkina Faso, Namibia, Senegal, Kenya, Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe, and host nation Uganda. All Rugby Africa Cup Tournament competitions will take place at the newly refurbished stadium, Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, following commencement on Saturday, July 18 to Sunday, July 29 in Kampala, Uganda.
