Algeria star fullback Julien Caminati kicked four penalties on Wednesday, July 24 to steer the North Africans to a stunning 20-12 win over favourites Kenya as the Les Lionceaux reached the Rugby Africa Cup final.
Caminati’s 58-metre kick just five minutes to go sealed the entertaining semi-final for the Algerians, who were pumped up from the word go.
38-year-old France-born Caminati put Algeria ahead early from the kicking tee, but Kenya soon took the lead when hooker Eugene Sifuna scored after good work from the Simbas’ huge forwards pack.
Algeria scrumhalf Thomas Lacroix then came on the end of a slick backline move to score for the men from the north.
Kenya restored the lead when winger Beldad Ogeta scored a brilliant solo try.
In the second half, the veteran number 15 Caminati slotted two quick penalties before the monster kick that condemned continental giants Kenya to defeat. The final match day of the Rugby Africa Cup in Uganda will commence on Sunday, 28 of July.
