RUGBY ACADEMY TRAINING – 37 Physical Education teachers representing 17 Regions of Madagascar attended training with the Malagasy World Rugby Trainers.

The objective to train educators and this will ultimately increase the number of rugby players in schools.

A tournament was organised parallel to this training which allowed teachers to learn and evolve in a practical way.  200 children – 6 girls teams, U12, U15 & U17 boys participated.  The games were referred and coaches by the Get into Rugby interns.  For many of these children it was the first time they had ever played with the oval ball !!

Balls, Get into Rugby, Rugby Ready and Level 1 Certificates were given to the participants.

In the short term ; the objective is to build girls and boys 7’s rugby in each region.  These teams will participate in tournaments within their zone culminating in a National Academy Championship which will take place in June in Antananarivo.

In 2019 these PE Teachers will complete the second part of their training which will enable them, in turn, to train more colleagues and teachers.  In the long term…. perhaps Madagascar can participate in a Regional Schools championship ?
