Morocco and Madagascar Clash in First Repechage Final as Hunt for Promotion Continues

CASABLANCA, Morocco– Today, hosts Morocco and Madagascar clash in Casablanca in the final of the Rugby Africa Repechage Pool B Tournament, with promotion to the continent’s premier division uppermost in both teams’ minds.

Morocco on Wednesday gave Botswana a rude awakening on their return to international rugby, thrashing the Southern African side 64-0 in its first Test match since 2018. In the second semi-final later in the day, Madagascar were able to shake off a first-half challenge from Cameroon to prevail 33-7 in the end.

The winner of this Casablanca competition, staged at the Club Olympique Casablancais, proceeds to play the victors from another Repechage tournament set for December. That grand final determines the team that gets promoted to the main Rugby Africa Cup in 2025.

Tunisia, Ghana, Nigeria and Zambia will contest the December tournament – Pool A – to conclude an exciting battle to join the continent’s top nations at next year’s make-or-break Africa Cup in Kampala, Uganda.

The 2024 Rugby Africa Repechage Pool B Tournament is organized by Rugby Africa (www.rugbyafrique.com), the continental governing body of Rugby across Africa, in partnership with the Royal Moroccan Rugby Federation (FRMR), participating nations include host nation Morocco, Madagascar, Cameroon and Botswana.

Match Day 2: Sunday 24 November 2024 (Local Morocco Time) (CET)

  • Play-offs: Botswana vs Cameroon (10:00)
  • Final: Morocco vs Madagascar (13:00)
