Uganda have beaten Burkina Faso 25-15 to atone for their defeat to Zimbabwe in a tightly-fought semi-final of the Rugby Africa Cup.
The Cranes, who nearly stole a last-gasp win against the Zimbabweans on Saturday, were less troubled by an otherwise lively Burkina Faso side that even had the fighting spirit to score the first try of the match.
Wing Antoine Yameoco crossed over for the Burkanabes early, but his opposite number Shaku Ssembui had the home crowd on its feet with a well-worked try moments after fullback Phillip Wokorach had slotted a three-pointer.
The Ugandan talisman Wokorach followed up with a try of his own, but Burkina Faso scrumhalf Stephane Bationo danced his way to a try to make sure the score was a respectable 15-10 at the break.
The match’s turning point was a penalty try for Uganda midway through the second half after sustained pressure.
A try by Burkina Faso outside-centre Kiswendsida Zebango probably came late to change things, because another Wokorach penalty assured Uganda of the win.
