Competitions’ season is open – What we like most in May is the opening season of Rugby Africa’s competitions. From now till the end of September, African team will meet and fight for the first place of their category. This year’s specificity lies in the first round of the 2019 Rugby World Cup Qualifiers taking place in place in Casablanca in July during the Africa Cup 1C.
In May, the competitions will open with the Africa Cup 2nd division – East staging four teams : Lesotho, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi and Rwanda.
This tournament will take place in Kigali, capital of Rwanda which already welcomed last year, the pre-qualifiers for the Olympics Games. This international competition of fifteen-a-side rugby will thus be the first one organized by the union as well as the very first participation of Lesotho.
The teams will be on site for a week, for two match days:
Sunday 15 : arrival of the teams
Monday 16 : training and technical meeting
Tuesday 17 :
MATCH 1 at 2 p.m RWANDA v BURUNDI
MATCH 2 at 4 p.m LESOTHO v DRC
Friday 20:
MATCH 3 at 2 p.m LOSER MATCH 1 v LOSER MATCH 2
MATCH 4 (FINAL) at 4 p.m WINNER MATCH 1 v WINNER MATCH 2
For this Africa Cup the only selection criteria is volunteering. Last year it had gathered Rwanda, Burundi and DRC ; who will be the big winner of the 2016 season ?
