Charles in Ivory Coast – At the end of October Rugby Africa organized a Level 2 training course for the coaches of Ivory Coast Rugby Union. Adopo André, World Rugby’s trainer, assisted by Charles Yapo and Siaka Traoré delivered the workshop. They met at the National Institute of the Youth and the Sports in Abidjan.
13 coaches level 1 and 6 coaches level 2 were invited for the occasion. 15 novice coaches also joined the trainees to get their first introduction to what is waiting for them next should they wish to be upskilled
To better facilitate the seminar, 5 groups were formed. They consisted of a team leader, a coach level 2, a World Rugby’s trainer, 4 coaches level 1 as well as a novice coach.
The topics discussed were many and varied. The rugby jargon and its importance, the general movement of players and the attack.
Following classroom sessions the interns were able to go practice on the field. Helped by a group of players of the INJS, the group organized training sessions and were then evaluated by the trainers. Other themes were then touched on. The general movement of the players when defending, the defense in general including tackling and positioning of players and the counter-attack.
The training ended with a ceremony during which balls and bibs were handed over.
In the name of the executive board of the union, the person in charge of the training was anxious to thank the trainer for the density of the contents, for his educational approach and his generosity. He also asked the trainees to set to work. The validation of the level 2 will happen during the year. It will be just after the practice sessions diaries of each coach has been approved. Coaches will also be evaluated during a practice session in their clubs. It will be followed by a session of training in their respective clubs.
