Africa Cup 1B in Madagascar – the Africa Cup 1C will begin on Sunday, June 12th. This year, it will take place in Antananarivo ; temple of the African rugby, where more than 20 000 spectators are present for every match in the mythical Mahamasina stadium.
In Madagascar, the show is guaranteed to be a good one and the crowds will undoubtedly come to cheer the big teams of Senegal, Zambia and the national team of the island : the Makis.
The matches will be played on June 12th, 15th and 19th to give some time to the teams to recover. One must say that Antananarivo is a challenging match venue for the players coming from the continent ; indeed the capital city peaks at more than 1 435 meters demanding more time to acclimate.
In 2016, Rugby Africa chose to change the format of the AC 1B. It now gathers 6 teams into 2 pools of 3 teams each. These pools are made up according to the results from previous year. The winners of each pool will meet in a final decisive match for the promotion in group A. The bottom team having accumulated the least number of points during the tournament will be relegated in group C. The team relegated won’t have any chance to participate to the World Cup 2019 in Japan.
This year the Pool A thus meets in Madagascar while the Pool B will be in confrontation in Tunisia from June 26th to July 2nd.
