The final of the Africa Men’s Sevens to determine the top side in the second leg of the competition will be between South Africa and last week’s winner of the first leg Uganda.
The final kick-off is at 16:32 (Local Mauritius Time), preceded by the Bronze Medal match between the two semifinal losers Madagascar and Zimbabwe (15:53).
- In the first semifinal, South Africa were quick out of the blocks and used their pacy backs to stretch the ball wide – and it paid off handsomely.
They crossed the Madagascar tryline three times in the first half and with Ricky Duartte’s one conversion led 17-0 at halftime. They repeated their first-half hat-trick of tries and took the score to 36 with Madagascar managing only two tries, both in the second half, when the match was already beyond winning.
- In the other semifinal, last week’s winner in the first leg of the two tournaments Uganda dispatched Zimbabwe 36-14.
- The final should be an interesting affair, with Uganda’s confidence and good organization on the field certain to test the South Africans, who perhaps had it a little too easy against Madagascar.
