Thanks to their victory 17 points to 15 in the final of the Africa Women’s Sevens against Kenya, the South African ladies have now qualified for the 2018 Sevens Rugby World Cup in San Francisco.
8 teams competed in this tournament which was held at Jemmal stadium in Monastir, Tunisia the 16th and 17th of September : South Africa, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Uganda, Senegal, Tunisia and Zimbabwe.
This edition of the tournament was a tribute to African Women.
A training camp for female referees was organized in parallel of the tournament: In addition to referees appointed for the tournament, six up and coming talents (4 Tunisian girls, 1 Senegalese, 1 Malagasy and 1 Moroccan) were given the opportunity to grow their refereeing skills under close supervision from Salem Attalah. All trainees acted whether as central referees or side-line judges during the Africa Women’s Sevens.
